Senator John Curtis (Republican-Utah) said he was "deeply troubled" by the U.S. vote that "put us on the same side" as Russia and North Korea.
"These are not our friends. This posture is a dramatic shift from American ideals of freedom and democracy," Curtis said on X. "We all want an end to the war, but it must be achieved on terms that ensure Ukraine's sovereignty and security and that deter [President Vladimir] Putin from pursuing further territorial ambitions."

Tensions on the anniversary of Russia’s invasion
President Trump met with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, at the White House yesterday, three years to the day after Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The leaders diverged significantly over the war’s causes, each side’s role in the conflict and its possible resolution.
Trump told reporters that the fighting could be over “within weeks” and suggested he might visit Moscow as soon as this spring. He refused to call President Vladimir Putin of Russia a dictator, while Macron stated flatly that “Russia is the aggressor.”
At the U.N., the U.S. opposed a European effort to condemn Russia and call for its immediate withdrawal from Ukraine. The Trump administration introduced its own resolution, which softened the language and called only for an end to the war, essentially siding with Moscow over longtime allies.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — In a dramatic shift in transatlantic relations under President Donald Trump, the United States split with its European allies by refusing to blame Russia for its invasion of Ukraine in votes on three U.N. resolutions Monday seeking an end to the three-year war.

Quando l'Assemblea generale delle Nazioni Unite ha messo ai voti le risoluzioni sulla guerra in Ucraina lunedì 24 febbraio, ha approvato la risoluzione presentata da Kyiv con l'appoggio dell'Europa con un voto di 93 nazioni a favore, 18 contrarie e 65 astenute. L'Assemblea è scoppiata in un applauso.
Tra i 18 paesi che hanno votato contro la risoluzione dell'Ucraina c'erano Russia, Stati Uniti, Israele, Ungheria, Haiti, Corea del Nord, Nicaragua e Niger.
"Questo è un momento di verità, un momento storico", ha detto all'Assemblea generale Mariana Betsa, viceministro degli esteri ucraino, un momento che definirà il futuro dell'Ucraina e del mondo libero.
Quando l'Assemblea generale ha preso in esame la risoluzione degli Stati Uniti, ha approvato tre emendamenti dei paesi europei, aggiungendo un linguaggio che chiamava la Russia l'aggressore invasore. L'Assemblea ha quindi approvato la risoluzione emendata con un voto di 93 a 8, con 73 astensioni.
